Where are the clinics and hospitals located in Wokingham and Crowthorne?

Proximity to medical facilities, especially those that are open out of hours, is an important consideration when looking for a new home. While nobody likes to think about illness or injury, you never know when you may need to make use of such services, so it pays to have some good facilities close to hand.

Fortunately, the people of Wokingham and Crowthorne are privy to some great services which encompass many different forms of treatment:

Wokingham Hospital

This NHS hospital located in Barkham Road is operated by the Royal Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and is sometimes known as Wokingham Community Hospital. The hospital offers paediatric and outpatient clinics but doesn’t have an Accident and Emergency service. It also incorporates Barkham Day Hospitals, which offers the Community Older Adults Mental Health Service and Children & Adolescent Mental Health Services.

Wokingham Therapy Clinic

Situated in the centre of the town in Denmark Street, the clinic offers alternative and complementary therapies, covering acupuncture, Chinese medicine and hypnotherapy amongst other services. It also specialises in fertility treatment, providing therapies that may increase chances of conception.

Royal Berkshire Hospital

This is the main hospital serving the Berkshire area and while it is situated in Reading, it’s only seven miles away from central Wokingham. This facility offers Accident & Emergency, a maternity ward, a cancer centre and the Dingley specialist children’s centre, to mention but a mere handful of services. It also operates many outpatient clinics.

Wokingham and Crowthorne doctors and out-of-hours services

There are far too many GP practices serving the area to mention here, however a detailed list can be found via the Wokingham CCG website. Alternatively, the Reading Walk-in Health Centre based in the Broad Street Mall is open from 8:00am to 8:00pm every day.

West Berkshire Community Hospital in Thatcham might be a 40-minute drive away, but it offers a minor injuries unit which is open from 8:00am to 10:00pm every day of the week.

For out-of-hours medical assistance, there is a service called ‘West Call’ which is contacted via the NHS 111 number. It is open from 6:30pm to 8:00am, including weekends and Bank Holidays.

Naturally, a good estate agent will be able to give more detailed information on a particular area; being an expert on a certain ‘patch’, however, the information above should hopefully prove useful for those thinking about moving to the region.
